Banbury ANPR cameras alert stolen car

In the afternoon of September 16, a car was stopped on North Bar Street, Banbury, after the car alerted the ANPR cameras in the area. The car was stolen in South Yorkshire and was set to notify the police if identified.

When it comes to recovering stolen vehicles, time is of the essence. The sooner police officers can identify a stolen car, the sooner they can start tracking down the thieves and bringing them to justice.

One way that police officers are able to speed up the process of recovering stolen vehicles is by using ANPR cameras. ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition, and these cameras are able to scan license plates and compare them against a list of stolen vehicles. This helps police officers to quickly identify and recover stolen cars.

Police officers from the Incident Crime Response unit detained both the female driver and male passenger. They are currently in custody with Thames Valley Police and are being questioned for driving with no insurance and for the theft of the motor vehicle.

ANPR cameras have been shown to be very effective in helping to reduce the number of thefts. In fact, a study conducted by the University of Portsmouth showed that ANPR cameras reduced the number of car thefts by up to 26%.
