Cashless On-Street Parking: Brisbane City on Being the First

On-street parking is a problem in most major cities. Cars take up valuable space on the street and often lead to congestion as drivers search for a spot. In an effort to solve this problem, many cities have turned to cashless on-street parking systems. At the height of Covid-19 Brisbane City changed 960 parking meters to cashless and they are the latest city to trial such a system.

The new system will allow drivers to pay for their parking using their smartphones,. This is hoped to reduce congestion and make parking easier and faster. Brisbane City Council believes that this system will also be more convenient for drivers, as they will no longer need to carry coins or notes to pay for parking. The system is currently being trialled in the CBD, and if successful, will be rolled out to other areas of the city.

So far, the response from drivers has been positive. Many believe that the new system will save them time and money. Others are happy to support a move towards a cashless society, particularly for hygiene purposes. However, there are some concerns about the security of the system and whether it will work properly. Only time will tell if the new system is a success.

What do you think about Brisbane City's new cashless on-street parking system?
